Six masters. Centuries of Japanese tradition. One extraordinary evening of shakuhachi.
The Australian Shakuhachi Society presents a rare gathering of leading Japanese and Australian performers of the shakuhachi – the evocative Japanese bamboo flute.
Hear traditional solo repertoire, ensemble music and contemporary works brought to life by Teruo Furuya, Kazushi Matama, Kaoru Kakizakai and Saki Imoto from Japan, Carl Rathus and Lindsay Dugan from Australia.
Spanning centuries of tradition and the living possibilities of the instruments today, this intimate concert offers a unique opportunity to experience the depth, power and subtle beauty of Japanese music in the hands of some of its foremost performers.
Presented as part of the Australian Shakuhachi Festival 2026, held in Maroochydore from 3–6 September.
